Time spent in the Lion City

June 2nd, 2007 by blitzglen

A day after my convocation, my parents and i spontaneously went down to Singapore by bus…and mind you, we went without a single Singaporean currency!!! not even 10 cents…haha!

The nite before, i’ve checked the bus schedule from KL to S’pore for the Konsortium bas company thru paikling’s account. According to the online schedule, bus to s’pore is very frequent with bus leaving two hourly starting from 7.30am. However, to our dismay, our plans to catch the 11.30am bus was dashed because the bus company in Puduraya told us the next bus to s’pore is at 11.30pm!!!!!!!

Feeling slightly cheated, haha, we went to check out other companies and finally we took a double decker bus from the LPMS company. this the first time i heard of such company. the bugger counter person sold us the ticket at rm33 per person BUT the ticket given to us in the bus was valued at rm30. kena tipu rm3. bugger!!! but nvm, i saw another couple sitting next to me was charged rm90 for 2 person. haha, kena tipu rm15 each.

setting out at 12.30 pm, the expected time of arrival at Golden Mile bus station at Beach Road was 6pm. haha, guess wad’s the time when i set foot into s’pore?? its nearly 9pm okie!!!!!! haha, and when we wanted to contact our relatives in s’pore…aiya, noob like us thought tat our msian hp numbers can be used in s’pore…mana tahu, they can’t be used to call out to local numbers!!! haha, so we went to buy Singtel starter pack at S$8, with S$10 worth of credit. call rate is rather cheap at S$0.08 per min, even to international numbers like msia… the only drawback is that, they’ll charge u up to S$0.59 a day for calls received. anyways, we didnt manage to reach our relatives initially so we put up the nite at a hotel lo…and that’s when my aunt Eileen called back…haha! anyways, we’ve decided that its better to just put up for the nite since we’ve checked into the hotel and just meet up with them the next day.

The excitement begins the next day when aunt Eileen and uncle Richard came to meet us at the hotel. imagine that…my parents haven’t meet them after nearly 30yrs!!! and this the first time i get to meet them after i’ve heard about them for sooo long…anyways, its filled with chatters about families, health etc and also the matter concerning our return tickets to KL ( u see arr, noobies like us didnt purchase a return ticket to KL when we bought our bus ticket in KL…haha, so our relatives were worried we couldnt catch a bus back to Kl since its holz season) and bah blah blah…30years of lost time, imagine the things they have to say to each other!

so, right after, they drove us to the Tanjong Pagar train station… coz my parents wished to try intercity ktm train rides. they’ve never tried taking trains before mah…so, we bought tickets back to KL priced at S$30 each… my uncle richard had to go entertain one of his business clients so aunty eileen was left alone to bring us around =). we went to vivo city which is located just opposite to the sentosa resort and took our 2nd breakfast there…haha

Dsc02516 me, aunt eileen and pa…at vivo city near harbourfront. its just opposite to sentosa!

after our breakfast, we went for a short walk around vivo city, and finally we grabbed a monorail into the sentosa resort. the entry pass to sentosa is S$3…by monorail. not a bda price after all. inside the resort, there are many many many entertainments…but each with their own entry charges for eg waterworld charges about S$20 per entry. haha…the system there is pretty nice la. the bus and tram rides inside are free to any beaches etc. there are historical forts etc too for viewing. msia shud come up with a similar resort too… i bet it would be a hit if they charges reasonably…we didnt walk around much caused my aged aunt and pa cant walk far. haha, after a shortwhile, we came ot from the resort. took our lunch at harbourfront food court (also forgotten the name liao) and then we went to orchard road by mrt. whoaliao, that place is reli a shopping haven la…not the price though…haha, maybe i didnt reli go thru all the places, its impossible to walk all in a day…wad more to say just a few hours!!! takashimaya was the only one that i roamed…but didnt roam far too…then at nite, we went back to aunty eileen’s place before goin out for dinner with the whole family minus their son vincent and daughter linda…

Dsc02554

sitting from left to right: my pa, aunt Eileen, cousie Albert and Uncle Richard. standing: my mum and me!!!we were eating at a foodcourt. oops, forget the name of the place ady. hehe

after dinner, we went to aunt angeline’s place to meet them. there i also meet my cousie julie and melvin…all for the first time. since its already late when we’ve reached their house, we didnt spend much time there. however, there’s stil tomorrow to look forward to wad…=)

the next day, aunty angeline and aunty maureen came to meet us in the hotel. and we went to sun tec city…for bfast and to see the place. whoa, that place is for conference and conventions. damn big la. s’pore is filled with all these huge buildings…then before we could walk far, our aunt eileen came with her car to fetch us for lunch. haha…and the 6 of us squeeze into her car and went of to eastcoast for food…whoa, i tell you, my time in s’pore was filled with food. plenty of nice food. bermacam-macam i makan. until i cant push it in anymore…

Dsc02556_1 me, aunty angeline and aunty maureen at the eastcoast beach area…

and then after, we went to aunty maureens place for a visit. she has all these interestin antique collections of tables, chairs etc…and also an obedient bird that she rears after she picked it up when it was injured. when uncle tony and cousie ruddy came back…again, i met them for the very first time. ruddy is of the same age as me, and he’s currently serving in the national service after completing his diploma in interior designing…

that nite, we went to a thai restaurant for our dinner. ate quite a number of delicious dishes. one of the best was the mango salad (or the malays called it kerabu). we had a super fast dinner coz we’re afraid we’ll miss our train which is scheduled at 10.15pm but we have to be there by 9.45pm mah…

Dsc02561 standing: my mum, me and uncle tony. sitting from left to right: aunty maureen, joanne i think (ruddy’s gf), ruddy, aunty angeline, aunty eileen and finally my dad…

then we went off to the train station. ahha, we were earlier than we thougt we’d be. there, its time for me to say goodbye to them. and it’s a sad moment esp for my dad…he’s never seen them for so many years and their hospitality there was awesome. heavy heartedly, we carry our luggage into platform2…its time to leave! sigh, all good things will come to an end…but every ending is the start of a whole new journey! we shall keep in touch more than only sending new year cards every year…

and we walk into the chugs of the trains…no more steams like the old type…lolz. and the expected time of arrival to KL sentral is at 7am the next morning BUT we reach at 9am…sigh! malaysian transport system…lolz

Dsc02564 at the train station, with an additional nikki or nicky (ruddy’s bro who’s standing beside me) who’s two years older and is working in the navy. he’s gonna pursue his degree in NUS in mechanical engineering soon.

Thank you for the kind hospitality in s’pore uncles, aunties and cousins. hope u all will come to kuching again one day…take care!

My First Labour Day…

April 28th, 2007 by blitzglen

I know many out there is waiting to laugh at me…hehe, dun deny it, u’re one of them!! YES! You…dun pretend to look behind u! haha, up to the age of 23, ahh, no la…stil 22….i’ve been eating, sleeping, staying and spending all from my parents and also sisters! Dun get me wrong, i’m still spending on theirs BUT at least i’m now doing something beneficial…firstly, im earning some pocket money for myself to buy anythin necessary esp when i go over to london & hence lower my parents burden. 2ndly, im teaching some kids how to do maths and add maths (dunno whether its beneficial or harmful, but hopefully its beneficial…..hehe)! at least im no longer rotting at home doin nothing…

Yeah, for those frens who don’t know, im currently teaching maths and add maths in an all gals school (which is opposite my old school and thank you…*i can see that snicker on your face*…haha) and my fellow students are in form 4 and form 5! There, teaching is a noble profession, so they say…….Without teachers, there wont be any doctors too ( quoted from my mum who’s obviously a teacher haha)!

Hell yeah…working is a new experince for me. it’s not as simple as what i thought it would be. imagine that after enjoying the luxurious sedentary lifestyle for the last 3 months waking up near noon time everyday (except when i went for hosp attachment plus muh trip to kl), i had to wake up as early as 5pm coz i had to be in school before 7am leh. haha, and everynite, my bedtime is almost 2am in the morning…aiya, need to prepare for the next days class mah. unseasoned teachers like us have to put in some effort mah, how to compare with those who’ve taught the same subjects all their life? rite? so…there…i had to re-korek my brain about maths and add maths! i’ve forgotten all of the mathematical formulas and had to start from scratch… =) but fortunately, all is not lost…i stil can do my maths and add maths. haha!

anyways…that was my first labor day!!! not very eventful tho…=)

KL-Penang-Seremban Trip

April 20th, 2007 by blitzglen

Heeeee…has it been two weeks? yeah, i guessed thats how long since i last blogged. I was very busy, but I would say that it’s one of the most happening weeks since i left IMU in january! Let’s see…

Good Friday sees the conception of my baby toshiba at the Kuching PC Fair held at the Pertama Car Park on the 6th of April. That very day, after reading the morning paper, i was rather determined thats the lappie that i’d want…a good deal for its price. mind u, it’s not that easy to buy an electronic gadget such as a lappie…it involves alot of surveying and dilemma. haha. temptations from other brands such as dell, HP, and acer are hard to be ignored! their specs are better at a lower price, argh, but what the heck….finally its toshiba satellite M100-1311E for me. Down with the deposit…

M100_2 specs:

1.6Ghz core2duo, 1G ram, 100G hdd, integrated graphics, pre-installed windows vista home, dvd-burner, bluetooth, fingerprint reader (which i hav yet to use), anti-spill resistant keyboard and 2yrs international warranty.

And the birth of my lappie was the day after in Compumart in Wisma Saberkas. Although i initially thought that there were some problems with the mic which made me to bring my baby back to the shop, it turns out to be some config prob. Now, its fit and healthy and im blogging using it…haha ;)

Then on that Sunday itself, i had to board my plane to KL to settle my letter of good conduct and also to bring back my properties that still sleeps on dear poh peng’s ground! haha, thanx to him (and also his fellow housemates) for allowing me to keep my stuff there for almost 3-4mths. and there are still some more left there for me to bring back, til the next trip…

After settling my stuff in IMU, I set off to Penang together with Suechoo (who had stg in her eye =0) and also Mingying to visit our frens who’s back in PMC. We went together with Suechoo’s beloved housemate, Choo Teck Ge, who risked his job by bringing us over altho he may be late for work that very day…(suechoo’s eye fault la). we had to go a Tun Hussein Onn Eye Specialist Clinic to see a specialist regarding her eyes. Niwe, thanx to Choo Ge, we saved about rm30 each for the bus ticket. Thanx Man!

Time in Penang was a blast! It’s great to see old familiar faces again. I even went there to play badminton…and also makan alot. Thanx to TaoQiu and Ah Ben for accomodating me in their cosy apartment…and also phaik khee and her dad for the great teochew meal! and Ah Heng Ge for the ride to the bus station (he purposely shift his class to gimme a ride summore) where i board my bus back to KL on Friday morning…and not forgetting all my other frens for the hospitality in Penang! My 4days 3nites stay in penang was really a memorable one. Thanx to Jo for the bookmark and soap!!! haha…surprisingly, she had toned down compared to last time.mature, kononnya! hopefully i’ll drop by penang again to meet them before i leave for london =)

Dsc02289haha, can post pics dy =) this is taken in PMC lecture hall…we curi masuk! haha. their lectures aint bad though… back to front: taoqiu, me, jo, biqi, mingying and the fattest in front…choo!!!

Dsc02295went for ais kacang at… forget the place’s name dy. haha…from left: szeyong, kokmeng, ben, uv, victor, wee loon and then me (with my national service haircut => )

Dsc02296huhuhu, the kingkongs reunites… excluding me la ofcoz!!! gaga

Dsc02301haha, VS is back in action! haha…ah tor in szeyong’s place before our dinner…

When i come back from penang that morning, i directly went back to Bukit Jalil to pack a few stuff, and an hour later, I was heading towards Seremban with Ah Hooi to meet up with M204 seremban folks. After visiting their new ground, we went for a ‘reunion’ dinner at Yummy Yummy (suggested by Ah Ong) which had a rather unique setting. the place looks rather romantic and have a glimpse of japanese style setting. Another great reunion! Feels so good to meet so many frens…reli miss those times :(

Dsc02304M204’s small reunion at yummy yummy restaurant… i’m so touched to see their presence despite their busy schedules. thank you buddies!!!!

Dsc02320a pic with chee and that was the last that i saw him before he flew to ULU SARAWAK (US) haha…bon voyage chee. all the best in thomas jefferson med school!

Dsc02324aiya buttock, no muscles la. mai kek!!! behind: ah hooi, ah ong and hailiang. sitting: me, gordon(@buttock), jenern(@gigi emas <tik-ki>) and zyiyong (@mohammad)

Dsc02335_1

act cute, haha! from L to R: me, ah feng, hailiang, and sautjun!

well, the next morning, there’s this annual goodwill games event (an event where seniors in IMU seremban clinical school will pit against the juniors from IMU bukit jalil campus in all sorts of sports) taking place in seremban. and guess wad, it’s my third goodwill games…but this time, im playing not for bukit jalil, but as an "imported" player of seremban clinical school. imagine me…leading a sedentary lifestyle without any form of exercise for the past 3mths or so in kuching… running around the court playing against calvin/ vun heng of BJ team…in no time, i was suffering from shortness of breath! haha, even on my top form, beating them was an arduous task. me and my partner Ah Ong crumbled rather easily in straight sets. i’ve forgotten the score but its a rather embarassing score. now, i noe how the seniors felt when we, bukit jalil folks, used to thrash them in badminton last time. kesian seremban clinical school, they were beaten in all events this year! it’s a record i think….and for badminton, they lost 5-0 also. haha! it’s okie folks, try again next year…but i believe i wont have the chance to witness the beauty of goodwilll games again for the next 3 years. it’s not about winning, but its about character building and also senior-junior bondings……

Dsc02363

haha, pics taken with our enemy after the match… whoa, why we dun have sweats one? lol, lost without sweat…

Dsc02361M204s in action, haha! unfortunately, cameraman shook…so abit blur la the pics

Dsc02369not forgetting this malao-yee whom i owez bullied…not bully la…i trained…=)

right after my badminton match ends, i had to reluctantly say byebye to all frens and quickly rushed down to KL Pc Fair with Ah Hooi to purchase his lappie. I on the other hand wanted to buy webcams and also ext hdd. On our way back to KL, my dear ex-housemate kokfoong called to see whether we can meet up. apparently he’s in sri petaling that morning. very sorry bro, couldnt get the opportunity to meet up with ya.after taking a short bath at Ah hooi’s sis’ house, we catch the next LRT down to KLCC. my god, the crowd that goes the pc fair is enough to drown singapore i think….haha!

And woooh….kennysia’s blog who wrote about pretty gals in pc fair was so true…not only were the promoters beautiful, a majority of the customers were also very much worthy to pay attention to. not that we hav time though. we spend about an hour at toshiba’s booth as Ah Hooi enquires about his laptop. and yeah, he bought it…but disappointingly, it was from a guy promoter. hahahaha!

Then, i went down to look for my gadgets…one by one, i surveyed every stall to ensure that i get a good deal. Finally, i bought two webcams (Rm50 each), two headsets (a pair for chinpei who asked me to help her buy), 3 extension usb ports for my sis and her frens, but i failed to get my 120G seagate ext hdd. even though its priced at rm279, its the hottest item on sale tis pc fair. every stalls run out of seagate but finally one stall said that they may have some more stock the next day. when we called the fella the next day, we were told there were no more stocks on seagate 120G hdd. so, this time, we went back to the pc fair to buy western digital instead…for a price of 260. thanx to ah hooi, i realised that the cheap webcam that i bought was not vista compatible….(bugger, how could i have forgotten about that?!) so, i had to search for another reasonably priced webcam in a very short time (i chose the same one as the one ah hooi had bought priced at rm100, but it turns out we got cheated. the quality wasnt as good as what they claimed it to be. aiya, nvmla). my flight is scheduled in the evening at 7.40pm…i called the taxi to be there in vista at 5.15pm and the journey from KLCC back to vista is about 1hr in total. i was really rushing that afternoon. in the end, i made it on time. and ohya, gordon bought himself a new toy from the pc fair as well (a pda). finally its time for me to go home. carrying about 40kg worth of luggage, i single handedly walked down from vista to catch the cab to airport. niwe, special thanx to su miin for accomodating me in his place for the week…reli thanx ya bro!

And when i finally reached home around10pm that nite, i was fully fully exhausted…but i still managed to spend some time playing with my gadgets to make sure they’re fully functional…and the next day will be my first day back to school. but this time, it’s not St Joseph…but the school opposite it…St Teresa’s school! whoa tired ady…tell u more about st teresa and the students in the next post! haha…its a wonder that i can write this much…

Who lived in the cold and eat fishes!

And while she looked so black and white in photographs,
                                      I absolutely love her,

"Looks abit like like duck…mixed bird (blood) ah?! nah, i bet it’s bcoz she mixed too much with ‘duck choy’ (*chuckled*). This may be the proof that people may acquire another fella’s traits if they mixed together for too long"

It’s been almost 5years *time flies*…July 2002 was the time when she stepped into our lives (and leaves her footsprints everywhere along the way…) into A-level Medicine 3, the most outstanding and happening group of all time in INTEC UiTM. This is where all the pretty gals and HANDSOME guys like Me…belonged to. haha ;p

It’s not the end la….haha, its just an end to one chapter, but the beginning of another chapter in an entirely new place! May we weet and have fun again in UK (united kingdom, not ulu klang or ulu kapit =p)…

Lazy…

March 29th, 2007 by blitzglen

Sigh…im just sooooo lazy. hehe, i was supposed to go for hospital attachment yesterday but somehow i had a bad headache in the morning so i decided not to wake up for it =)

well yeah, there’s stil tomorrow, and that’s if Pn Jong’s (the teacher that im supposed to be relieving during her maternity leave) baby decided not to come out that early. she claims that she may have to go for c-section this friday (which is tomorrow)…but until then, i would still be doin my attachment in Surgery Department.

Actually my whole week in Surgery Dept wasnt productive. mainly because i was lazy too. but, such coincidence, i met a senior from IMU who’s in St Georges doing his final year. so, we had a chitchat about lives in london and the systems there…=) and that very morning, i got a call from st teresa’s school to report for duty. asking for permission to leave, i went off to st teresa’s to report the the principal. Unfortunately, Pn. Jong wasnt around and i had to go back the following day so that she can hand over her duty to me. But i was lazy to go back to the hospital in the afternoon, instead i went to my old school across the road to lepak for awhile. it felt so good to be back in my old school, St Joseph Kuching… met some old teachers. some remembered, some forgotten…but it still feels good to see them! =)

haha, the next day, i went to meet Pn Jong in the staffroom. She was preparing the list of duties that she has to handle (which i have to carry on when i take over her position =0 ) and, my oh my, it’s a huge load. now i know why my mum and sis’ keep on complaining or their workloads…listing all her duties, it’ll take me a whole day! =) ohya, for those who didnt noe about it, she’s teaching maths and add maths, so im gonna be teaching that too…stupid ganesh owez doubt my ability to teach. have to prove him wrong…hopefully!

however, yesterday i spent the whole morning in the main OT observing simple mastectomies. man, really, the amount of fat tissue underneath the breast amazes me. no wonder women have two times the amount of fat compared to guys…but i didnt get to palpate though…i shud have asked for permission. the surgeon, Mr Zam is a willing teacher. i was in the main OT with a few other Unimas Yr5 students i believe. but hell yeah, mastec is indeed scary. not the procedure, but the after-look is so abnormal ( i mean it looks weird to have one missing breast la…no offense to those who’ve done mastec) so love ur breast ppl, check them regularly…this goes to guys as well. haha…

and apparently, i was asked by sister rokayah to give a small talk to a group of spm-leavers who’re applying to do medicine before their interview. these group of kasihan ppl have to go for 3-days orientation at hospitals to see and listen to doctors life. and to the mortuary as well…=) imagine those kids watching bodies with their facial skin peeled off….(scary movie ;0 but that wasnt the case la). all the best to them in their interviews. ohya, and a malay gal refused to shook my hand…and talking about that, i forgot to tell her that’s a requirement in order to become a doctor. =)

next week, i’ll be goin to cardiology unit. that’s if im not working… btw, i was told that the cardiology unit in sarawak is one of the best in southeast asia…very advanced with the fastest scanning machine is SEA. but, i dunno la…i’ll tell u more when or if i get attached there next week. man, our place is just so ulu…haha

Radiated in Radiology

March 24th, 2007 by blitzglen

Radiology Department in Sarawak General Hospital wasn’t as boring as I thought it would be. Not only the number of interesting cases was so plentiful, the working environment there never failed to cheer me and pohsen up.

First day of attachment, we went directly to find the head of department, Dr Tan (full name not revealed to protect privacy, haha) after getting our letter of approval from the director’s office. Upon reaching her office, we were greeted by her angry tone of voice arguing with some bugger on the phone. Oh wow, wad a way to start our attachment when our boss is in bad mood!!! We waited outside her office until she completed her phone conversation. Finally, after quite some time, we went in to see her. Although she has that stressed-out look on her face, she greeted us and asked us a couple of questions after we had introduced ourselves. We were then led to CT room and introduced to Dr Agus, a post-grad student there…

The CT room has two CT machines. One older version CT scan is used mostly for brain scan, and the newer 64-slice CT scan is used primarily or heart and abdomen scan. And yeah, proud to say, Sabahans have to come to our SGH for the 64-slice CT scanning because they do not have one in their very own General Hospital. Now, who is more ulu? :p Even their cardiologists have to travel the whole way here to treat their patients.

Apparently the dept is suffering from shortage of staff this week. This explains the distressed look on Dr Tan’s face. She was the only radiologist working on that day. When she called the ministry for more radiologists to be posted to SGH, she was informed that the to-be-radiologists from USM prefer to go to the east coast while those UKM and UM dudes do not want to come out from their Klang Valley. Furthermore, most hospitals in west malaysia have 7-8 radiologists each in their dept compared to SGH which only have 3. That particular day, Dr Tan had to fly from MRI to CT scan to Ultrasound to Nuclear Medicine and to plain x-ray to….Everyone needs a piece of her as she’s the only specialist working that day!!! Haha… She was asked by her higher authority to employ relief-radiologists from the west t cover the current shortage of staff, however, she refused to do that because she had to fork into the departments operational budget which was barely enough to cover the costs of all the equipments such as films, catheter, contrast dyes, gloves etc…she had asked for extra budget to employ these reliefs BUT the money never came. According to her, there were instances when they had to use a larger catheter for some patients when they run out of the correct size due to insufficiency of operational budget, thence causing the patient to suffer in pain. imagine a larger catheter is inserted into your penis…haha!!! besides, the shortage of radiologists may extend until july-august, and imagine the amount of money that will be incurred if u employ those reliefs. These thoughts led her to some funny quotes, one of which sounds like this:-

“Those people arr, dunno what they’ve vowed last time during their interviews before getting into medical school… what serving people loh etc…one day arrr, they’ll get struck by lightnings!” (haha,so cute eh =p)

One thing about this specialist is that she is concerned of her patients need. She tries her best to give the best to her patients. However, she likes to grumble alot and because of this, her staff cannot tahan her. There were lotsa cute gestures behind her. She’s the tornado of the dept (@ a gush of wind) after she shoved down xray-film viewing board in her moment of anger. everyone is afraid of her coz she seldom carry a smile on her face. Pohsen have one question for her and until now it remained un-asked, lol…

“Are you married?” ( my guess was…she’s married, but pohsen don’t think so…coz she’s so very garang! but she’s an attractive woman despite her age, i would say. but dont get me wrong…im not interested in her. besides, we share the same surname. but why did pohsen asked? hmmm, i wonder why……Haha )

In order to solve the shortage of staff problem, she decided to call a meeting for her staff that very day to cut down the services provided to show the top officials that they really cannot cope with the workload with such limited manpower. She was even thinking of quitting the government service because she was really fed-up with the condition. in my opinion, If she does so, it’s really a loss for the public because she’s really a good specialist, a very sharp thinker…

Haha, the meeting that was held was rather funny. It was attended only by male staff and only there were 5 of them albeit there were many more staff in the room. It was rather informal. Only once in a while did Dr Tan joined in to have her say and when she does, all of them kept quiet. Finally, they’ve reached a consensus to cut down on the number of services per week and someone has to draft a letter to let the director and the other departments know about it. And when she said someone has to draft the letter for her, those men started to scratch their head… one of them were kinda bald…and pohsen postulated that its because he scratched his head too much leading to his alopecia =) haha. Everytime we see him, we couldn’t help but laugh!

And btw, there are a few more lively characters in the dept. One of them is the other specialist called Dr Lee. She likes to joke a lot and rather playful. And she laughed when she heard pohsen’s name…

Dr Lee : What’s ur name ah?

Pohsen : TayPoh Sen…

Dr Lee : Haha, Pohsen.sounds so like sepuluh sen (continue laughing and announce to the others) hey his name is Pohsen, sounds like seposen (niwe, muka seposen usually refers to cheapskates =p hence imagine my laughter when she said that)

Another thing that irks me is that people always assume that we’re yao-qin-zai(rich kid) when we mentioned that we’re from IMU. but i couldnt blame them too. if im studying in local university and graduated from there, i would also have the same mindset and same prejudice towards private uni students! But, you rich kids in IMU have shown me that I’m wrong…not all rich kids are snobs like what i think they would be! i’ve greatly enjoyed myself with all of ya ppl!

Well, there were many more merry moments there but none were so significant…haha! yeah, and now back to those interesting cases that we’ve seen. On the 2nd day of my attachment, I was shown a CT scan of a man shot by a shotgun!!! His whole body had more than 50 bullet pellets in him from the shoulder to the waist. Miraculously, these bullets never hit any important parts. two of them were a few milimetres off the right ventricle and atrium, maybe stopped by the pericardium itself! Haha! And there weremany more that got stuck on his vertebrae…if not, he would be paralysed if those pellets hit his spinal cord.

Dr Patrick : Come Come……I show u twinkle twinkle little stars. Whats ur diagnosis?

Me : Mmm…I dunno…

Dr Patrick : Aiya, u know shotgun ah?…

Me : Mmm, okie…(I was thinking that he’s asking me to tembak a diagnosis) miliary TB??!! (because of the opacification of the film all over his body from shoulder to the waist)

Dr Patrick : No la, u know when people got shot by shotgun?! Haha, that’s how it looks like la. (showing me the scannogram of the CT scan)…twinkle twinkle little stars (boy its really twinkling when u scroll up and down the axial plane of the body) he should buy toto u know…two pellets just missed his right atrium and right ventricle. So many more pellets are stuck in his backbone, not injuring his spinal cord. What do u do to this kinda patients? Do u take the bullets out?and why?

Me : well, yeah….eh, no…..i dunno

Dr Patrick : u only take them out if they’re life-threatening. If not, you just leave them there. How to take out so many bullets and cause more wounds, rite? Haha, but next time he cant walk past the airport without triggering the alarm of the metal scanner la…..and imagine how’d he de when he goes for MRI?

And yeah, the guy is still alive….! Besides this case, there were many other interesting things that we’ve seen throughout the week. We’ve also learnt a new word which was lissencephaly : a term used to desribe brains that lack gyri (smooth brain). The baby which has this condition had a super arched cervical region making him looking like a bow when he lies down. They did a barium meal studies on him due to suspicion of reflux oesophagitis. And we’ve also seen a Down-syndrome baby with duodenal stenosis. Before this, I dunno any other medical conditions associated with it….except for mental retardation and those weird facial features…but now i know that they are also prone to congenital heart disease and also oesophageal reflux disease.

There were also cases of wilm’s tumour, medulloblastoma, post-op leaking urethra, stricture of membranous urethra in an elderly man, etc…among the procedures seen are CT-guided lung biopsies, cystourethrography by fluoroscopy to detect leakage of urethra in a rectal cancer patient, venography for DVT patients (its no longer done for DVT because we can use Doppler Ultrasonography to detect it, but its done for some studies to test the effectivity of a new drug. this technique is still the gold standard for DVT), PTBD (percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage) for a terminally ill pancreatic cancer patient, ultrasounds,….but aih, we were not allowed to observe mammography so! Haha… I saw ERCP once again and we were shot with quite a number of questions by Mr Wong, (the head of surgery dept)… and our sedentary lifestyle is very evident because we cant even remember the medical term for biliary tract which is cholangio-wadsoeva (so memalukan =0) imagine that!!! and we’re actually jpa students who’re goin to London and Edinburgh….haha, damn paiseh!

Ohya, we’ve also attended a talk at the cardiac clinic yesterday about movement disorders conducted by John Dunne, a Prof from Perth Australia.he was very good with in his explanations (although I ter-fell asleep halfway for a short moment). Now, the picture gets clearer with his explanations. He recommended www.wemove.org to learn more about movement disorders. U guys can check out the website =)

Niwe, this attachment taught me a lot and I’m quite relieved to know that radiology is a rather specialized specialty. Time is required to master this field so its not memalukan if we dunno much about CT scan etc at this stage because even the HO and MOs are similarly blur in this field. Haha, this is what a lazy bum like me would think instead of reading up more about it…next week will be heading to surgery department to see Mr Wong again. Haha! Hope it’ll be a happening one…coz I’ll be without pohsen who’ heading to the kiasu-land (s’pore) for the week! Haha. Lonely, I’m so lonely….*Mr Lonely - Akon playing at the background*

Sporty Weekend!!!

March 18th, 2007 by blitzglen

This is a great week for sports…for me at least! haha. all the teams that i’ve been supporting thru the years are in their winning ways.

To start off, the Red Devils continued their winning ways tapao-ing Sam Allardyce’s Bolton 4-1 last nite. With 8 games left to go in the prermiership and Chelsea trailing by 6 points behind, their consistency may just storm them yet to a much awaited trophy after abrahamovic stepped into EPL two years ago. last nite, MU displayed another convincing display leading by 3-0 by the 25th minute. Ronaldo was superb, Ji-sung was at the right place at the right time, and rooney was magnificent! when United scored the 4th goal by rooney’s splendid finish after being released by smith, it was already game over for Bolton. however, a funny penalty decision against vidic was conceded towards the end of the game. it shudnt be a penalty at all in the first place. but anyways, that’s football. i can’t wait to go england to catch a glimpse of the real game! But how am i supposed to wear MU’s jersey in london without being whacked by those chelsea and arsenal supporter? haha!

Next up, was of course our Malaysian badminton men’s doubles pair of koo kien keat and tan boon heong. out of 5 tournaments since their pairing, they’d won 3…they’re the runner up of the japan open in their debut, won the Asian games in Doha, winner of the malaysian open, semifinalists in the Korean open, the All England champion and now they’re in Swiss open finals after ousting fu hai feng/cai yun and chandra wijaya/tony gunawan enroute to the finals scheduled tonite. Koo kien keat/tan boon heong displayed composure in their matches, playing well aggressively n defending well with superb placings of the shuttle all over the court. hope they’ll continue their winning ways when they face the world number two jens eriksen/ martin lundgaard hansen of denmark tonite!!!

Besides, F1 had kicked off its season in melbourne this week before comin to Sepang, Malaysia in a fortnights time. and once again, the prancing horse emerged victorious in melbourne after the schumacher’s era. Kimi Raikonnen broke Alonso’s domination the last two season and secured a well deserved victory leading from the start to the chequered flags. Massa also performed well grabbing the 6th spot after he started from the back of the grid! Ferrari is back on form and they seem to have a better package this season with a very fast car! Alonso was 2nd and Hamilton, the new driver, was 3rd for Mclaren. hopefully Ferrari will have a good run this season and seize the championship back from renault!

Another good news from home is that nicol ann david won the CIMB KL open squash tournament. She’s proven why she’s the best in the world after defeating world number 2 natalie grinham in an exciting 5-sets thriller.

and haha….even the "crocs" (sarawak football team) managed a win in their malaysia cup campaign after a super long losing-streak. this is to conclude my good week of sporting events! dont forget to watch the swiss open tonite…=)

Here I am

March 17th, 2007 by blitzglen

Haha…i hope im not outdated!!! Now am trying to familiarize myself with this whole blogging world. besides, someone *wink* has told me quite some time ago, that i should pick up this habit, to be more expressive in my thoughts. i doubt i’ll be able to tell my everything into this blog of mine for the whole world to see ( can you?!) but at least i’ll tell some of it and hopefully…as time goes on, speak my whole thoughts out as i get more expressive each passing day =) but i doubt it, scorpio tends to be secretive in a way or another! ;)

since, im a noob, please give encouraging comments la yeah? well, i dun mind criticism…shoot me all u want, as long as we all feel hapy! but i never promise not to shoot back, so yeah, fair and square. we all get to learn to be more expressive. at least, i won’t get culture shocks, when i go to london where the angmoh’s speak their mind out to me, as i’m already used to it =)

alrite, to start off, i’m goin to start my hospital attachment next monday for 3 weeks in Sarawak General Hospital. Pohsen and i just submitted our letter in today, and yet, the ever so helpful Mr Galidas didnt mind at all to help us, even at such a short notice. my whole heartfelt gratitude to him. so, starting next monday, i’ll start afresh and stop rotting at home. hopefully will learn some useful things for the upcoming clinical years. and yeah, i hope to go for radiology and also cardiology dept (hoping to learn more about xrays, ct scan, mri, ecg etc).have not much idea on which dept to go to besides these two. i have gone to A&E and surgery dept before. any suggestions? drop me one if there’s any…

yeah, btw, its darn weird…chatting online, for me,  aint as exciting as before ady. maybe its because im online most of my time thus there’s this desensitisation process going on. does this situation reflect on love & relationship as well? do we take those ppl around us for granted just because we always see them, and yet miss those whom we dun see much? sometimes i feel so….we shud find a cure to this problem, if there’s any! maybe blogging is the solution. haha

hey, btw, how did i broach into that subject anyways? hehe, im starting to crap i believe. alrite, enuff said for now. til i have any further thoughts, then i’ll throw everything into this blog of mine. now im stil noob, dunno how to upload pictures into my blog  yet…wait til i noe how! i kinda figured out how ady, but…now no interesting pix to upload yet!!! hehe…
